Oreos

Oreos
Sometimes my girls are really cute.

Other times they are cute and crazy.

Like this…

Snot nose.

Crazy hair.

Oreos.

Love it.

The other day I found Carmen eating an Oreo.

WHILE… here’s the kicker…Brushing HER teeth with MY TOOTHBRUSH!

Serious.

That is like top list of things you don’t do.

1. Don’t use someone else’s toothbrush

2. Wait a sufficient amount of time before brushing, after eating an Oreo

I couldn’t believe it.

That’s when I thought this mom thing isn’t always so glamorous.

No one talks about those moments.

So, here’s another behind the scenes look. (See moms, you aren’t alone.)

Today I woke up at 3:30 to “mama” and proceeded to lay on the floor by Carmen for an hour or so until she fell asleep.

Then I crawled back into bed after Carmen was asleep, only to wake up to Michael saying “Is that Nora?”

NOOOOO….

Something as simple as sleep can turn me into a grouch.

More than anything I just wanted to sleep.

But no, I was needed. By two cute crazies.

I fed Nora, tried to stall her in my bed for 30 minutes, until I realized she was sticking her bottom in Michael’s face.

(Needless to say we are not cuddle in bed with children types…)

So off I went. I took Nora back into her room. Tried to lay on the guest bed while she played with toys.

10 minutes…knock knock. (We put safety handles on Carmen’s door…yes, we are officially one of THOSE families, so now she knocks from the inside to be let out)

Anyway, I got Carmen up. She wanted fruith lups (fruit loops).

So the day began. The whole gig and who knows what time it was.

All I know is I was hanging on to some ounce of hope that I would get to sleep for 5 or 10 minutes more.

The floor, the couch, the bed, I tried many random places before I gave up.

Being a mom teaches you sacrifice. Not just the type you learn about on Sunday, but the real, everyday stuff, too.

You give it all for the ones you love.

Your toothbrush, your sleep.

It’s a pretty cool thing. It’s also a crazy thing.

Some days I feel better than others about it.

But as we went to see Santa and story time with Ms. Claus today, somehow my day got better.

My girls didn’t know I wanted to sleep.

They thought I’d be there for them, with a smile and fruith lups no matter the time.

Which is true. I’m mom. 24/7. No vacations or holidays or days off.

Look at this sweetness.

Ms. Claus isn’t experienced with covering the midriff.

Look of terror, but it was actually a happy experience

Carmen could not get enough of her. Plus, she had a book with Snow White on the cover. Magical!

She told Santa she wants Candy.

So cute.

That’s me. Doing mom stuff. Gotta love it.

Now I just have to hide my toothbrush!

  2. Thanks Christina! 🙂 You’re the best. No, enjoy the sleep while you can! You’ll have lots of years ahead of sleepless nights. 🙂 Can’t wait for Christmas!! Yay!!!

  3. I love this post! Thanks for making our girls so happy every day. You are always planning fun activities for them. It’s no wonder they are up so early!!! They can’t wait to see what activity you have planned for that day! And you are right…outsiders rarely ever see the “behind the scenes work” a mother does! You are an amazing mom (and wife)! Love you.

PS – a shout out to my mom! Thanks for all you did and still do for me.
