So I’ve been thinking about giving and receiving rides.

It’s pretty neat what happens.

You really get to know someone.

The other day I gave a lady a ride to Round Rock, which turned out to be a 4 hour round trip outing. She was a lady in the ward, and I was helping her with a favor. I couldn’t believe what I learned about this woman during this drive. Really, I could write a whole post just about her life stories.

It made me think: When you’re in the car, it’s you, them, and the open road. (Well, open road in Texas….haha, I guess other places have more curvy roads…haha) So, you have a set amount of time to talk about anything you want. It’s such a beautiful concept.

I remember my mother-in-law saying she loved going on day-trip drives with her husband. He was hers for that time, and she loved getting to talk with him.

I feel the same way. It’s precious time.

Poor Michael was trying to get a ride to a church meeting for the men in Waco, about 45 mins away. I think he called 10 men to try to ride with, finally being able to meet up with one at the last minute. It made me think, “I’ll go with you! I’d love to ride with you!!”

It’s a simple way to combine your lives for a few minutes or hours.

  1. I love this post. We should take more road trips together…and Carmen usually cooperates by sleeping when we are in the car. Great post.

  2. Yes! Jill I discovered this with giving “rides” to my children…best time to talk and of course we have funny happy memories of times in the car! I like to think of it as a mother that is “at the crossroads”:)
P.S. Remember rides to ballet in Sac? Remember getting pulled over because you didn’t have your seatbelt on??? (Because you were changing in the car!)

Tell me what you think!
