This is evidence of the confusion that clouds our world and is ruining the morals of society.

A recent news report caught the attention of CNN: A couple raising a baby and keeping his/her gender a secret.

Of course we know the baby DOES have a gender, and sooner or later it will have to come up. It’s so sad that this is a story in the news. It is even more sad that the truth and divinity of gender is being mocked around every corner.

Here’s the story.

“I’m not telling the gender of my precious baby, I’m saying to the world, Please can you just let Storm for him/herself what he/she wants to be?” -Kathy Witterick,

So sad.

I aslo read in a Parenting Magazine just the other day, an article called “Pink vs. Blue.” It’s an interview about being accepting of both genders. She says, “We need to work harder on getting boys and girls to respect each other instead of furthering the belief that they’re from different planets.”

Here’s the interview.

It would be hard to know what to believe. It would be hard to know how to raise your child. It would be hard to teach your children about gender….if you didn’t have prophets today that are inspired and called of God to direct His people.

I know I am a woman for a reason. I know it’s more than pink clothes, dresses, princesses or barbies. It’s about my skills, talents, and divine responsibility. It’s a feeling of purpose and reassures me it wasn’t just a 50-50 happenstance.

This is what I believe:

“All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.” –Family Proclamation

I hope you can wade through the confusion of the world, and hold fast to the principles we know to be true. Let’s love each other, and love our gender.

  1. Prison guards are not getting paid and their hours cut. The courts have ordered the release of thousands of California prisoners prematurely due to overcrowding. Budget shortfalls causing the state to be upside down.A prison guard spoke to me during a dental visit. His prison alone spent $39million last year on “alternative lifestyles”.to alter your gender it takes a weekly shot costing $800 and the state pays for it.they also pay for the psychiatrist etc. There were 20 prisoners just on his yard alone receiving those treatments. With 3 yards and 3600 inmates the numbers get insane. So gender confusion is costing California everything! A state that permits anything loses everything!

  2. haha yep, When I told Michael what I was reading and writing about, he responded with your classic statement: “You can’t be so open-minded that your brain falls out!”

    Love you Dad.

  3. Well, I agree with this comment “We need to work harder on getting boys and girls to respect each other instead of furthering the belief that they’re from different planets.” In my view there is nothing good that comes from promoting the perspective that genders are so different they are from different planets. I think one of the reasons that I was frustrated growing was because there were so many stereotypes (especially in mormon culture world) about gender that are unfair and irrelevant. They really have nothing to do with the truth about gender. Now, that aside, I do believe it can be valuable to learn about the stewardships of each gender, and honor those things. But in order to do that, we don’t need to box up each gender and pretend it’s something that it’s not– girls are interested in this, boys are interested in that. It doesn’t work like that, nor does it have anything to do with the real reason that gender is divine. If we were to pretend for a minute that we didn’t know Jesus’ gender, and then assess his qualities, we might be surprised to find that we weren’t sure (according to gender stereotypes) whether he was a man or a woman. That’s because we are all meant to develop perfect love, perfect power, perfect leadership, perfect meekness. So although gender IS important, that doesn’t mean we need to put some worldly spin on it and pretend gender is a stereotype as opposed to a part of us that defines some of our responsibilities. Thoughts? 🙂

  4. Hey Kels, Thanks for your input. You always have a great way of looking at things from all perspectives.

Yeah, I should have made it more clear, the quote about accepting other genders was positive. I was just interested in the fact they covered the issue. More sad that the world doesn’t know where to turn to learn about gender and how to treat others. Not so much on the content of the article.

As for the Jesus comment, I have thought of that before. As we overcome the natural tendencies or weaknesses in both genders, we become more of a perfected being, complete and whole. That is why to be perfected it takes a man and a woman working together toward a common goal. A lovely idea.

As for gender roles, gender stereotypes, gender characteristics, gender differences….there’s lots of messy water there. I know the stereotypes are sometimes blown out of control, but there are also gender traits that help us and are positive. Often, it is from these gender traits, gifts, or blessings, that the world turns them negative and exploits the differences. Women being sensitive then turn to women being weak and submissive. Not cool. So yes, lots to wade through when it comes to gender.

In communications we analyzed MANY media portrayals, and that’s why I’m still interested in what the media chooses to cover.

Thanks for reading my blog all the way over in Switzerland! Take care!
